Client
Our client creates innovative, user-friendly and modern applications that make lotto accessible to everyone. They truly believe that dreaming and hoping together through lotto empowers life — and now they’re building a brand-new team in Romania.
Role
As Senior Web Frontend Developer you play a key role in accelerating the web app’s journey toward feature parity with our iOS and Android apps, which currently lead the product roadmap. As our client continues to scale following our recent investment round, the web channel becomes increasingly important for reaching users who prefer to play the official lottery via desktop or browser instead of installing a mobile app—directly contributing to both revenue growth and user acquisition. By joining as our third Senior Web Developer, you expand our delivery capacity, helping us close the gap with mobile faster and ensuring web users enjoy a first-class experience.
Your Tasks & Responsibilities
- Deliver features independently. Spend the majority of your time implementing tickets end-to-end, from a well-defined task to production-ready code. This is the core of the role.
- Discuss before you build. Bring ideas and any changes to existing patterns or architecture to the web team before implementation. Autonomy on execution is high; autonomy on direction is a team decision.
- Participate actively in Scrum. Contribute to dailies, planning, refinements, reviews, and retros — including helping select tickets in a way that minimises overlap and merge conflicts.
- Treat code review and testing as first-class work. Review PRs promptly, write tests alongside features. Both drive our throughput.
- Collaborate with design and product. Work directly with our designer and PM to clarify requirements, sharpen UX, and surface technical constraints early.
- Coordinate with mobile on our shared backend. Web, iOS, and Android share one backend, so occasional alignment with the mobile teams is part of the role — typically around API changes or features built in parallel across platforms.
- Spot and surface improvements. Raise areas that genuinely need attention (performance, reliability, code quality, DX) with the team. Substance over ceremony.
Tech stack & work environment
- TypeScript as the main programming language
- React 19 and Next.js 16 (App Router, React Server Components) as the core framework
- Tailwind CSS for styling
- Vitest, Testing Library and Cypress for testing
- Storybook for component-driven development
- Contentful as our headless CMS
- Sentry for error tracking, Adjust and Google Analytics for analytics
- GitLab for source control, deployed on Google Cloud Platform
- Shared backend with our iOS and Android apps
- MacOS for development (we’ll send you a MacBook Pro)
Your Key Competencies
Must have
- TypeScript — strong working knowledge; we are fully typed.
- React — solid command of React 19, including hooks, suspense, concurrent features, and component composition.
- Next.js with App Router and React Server Components — hands-on experience with SSR, SSG, streaming, and caching. This is the backbone of our stack and we expect deep familiarity from day one.
- Tailwind CSS — comfortable building UI with utility-first CSS; this is how we style the app.
- Testing as a habit — writes tests alongside features. Hands-on experience with at least one modern testing stack (we use Vitest, Testing Library and Cypress); the discipline matters more than the specific tools.
- Senior engineering fundamentals — clean code, code review, debugging, performance awareness, and knowing when to invest in quality versus ship.
- Remote collaboration in an agile setting — Scrum participation, async-friendly communication, and the ability to drive tickets independently in a high-trust team.
Nice to have:
- Google Analytics or comparable web analytics platforms.
- Contentful or another headless CMS.
- Accessibility (a11y) and internationalization (i18n) experience.
- Storybook for component-driven development.
- Lottery, gambling, or other regulated-industry experience.
Your impact in this role
- Months 1–3 — Onboarding & ramp-up: You build a solid understanding of Lotto Scanner and the web codebase. By the end of month 3, you are comfortable shipping tickets to production with minimal guidance.
- Months 3–6 — Independent delivery: You operate autonomously on features and tickets in our remote, high-trust setup—asking for input when useful and driving tasks end-to-end without daily direction.
- By month 6 — Measurable feature impact: You have shipped multiple production features that move the web app closer to parity with iOS and Android, contributing visibly to overall team throughput.
Your soft skills
- Low ego, high trust. Agreeable, transparent about decisions, and supportive of teammates. Team spirit matters more than individual brilliance.
- Responsive communication. Reachable during our core hours (10:00–16:00) — we keep each other unblocked. Written-first for async, calls for harder topics.
- Disagree and commit. Strong opinions are welcome and expected. Voice them, hear the counterarguments, and once the team has decided, get behind it. Once it’s decided, it’s decided.
- Team-first ownership, no blame culture. When something goes wrong — a production bug, a missed deadline — it’s all hands on deck to fix it, not a search for who to blame. The flip side: we expect everyone to take their work seriously and care about the outcome.
- Comfortable with autonomy and remote work. Self-directed and able to drive tickets end-to-end without daily check-ins. Equally comfortable raising a hand when something is blocking — silence is the failure mode we watch for.
- Curious about the product. Lotto Scanner has real users and real money flowing through it. We want someone who cares about what is being shipped, not just how.
Your Background – Education & Experience
- 5+ years of web development experience, with strong React expertise. Slightly less is fine if clearly operating at a senior level.
- Proven track record of shipping production features to real users, ideally at scale, with end-to-end ownership.
- Product-focused, B2C mindset preferred: experience in product companies is a strong plus.
- Startup or scale-up experience is highly valued: comfortable in fast-paced, high-ownership environments.
- Experience in regulated domains (e.g., lottery, gambling, fintech, healthcare) is a plus.
- Degree in Computer Science or similar is optional: we prioritize what you’ve built and delivered.
