Role

As Technical Product Owner, you own the intersection of technology and product vision – you translate strategic business objectives into actionable, prioritized requirements and ensure our engineering teams focus on the initiatives that deliver the greatest impact. In this role, you create the foundation for scalable, technically excellent products, directly driving customer satisfaction, time-to-market, and sustainable growth. Without you, the critical bridge between business strategy and technical execution is missing – you are the one who turns vision into outcome.

Your Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Requirements management & specification: Collecting, analyzing, and translating complex technical requirements into actionable epics and stories with clear acceptance criteria.
  • Backlog ownership & prioritization: End-to-end responsibility for the product backlog – from gathering requirements through prioritization to acceptance.
  • Roadmap coordination: Contributing to the definition of the product roadmap and bringing forward proposals for alignment with the product team.
  • Technical co-creation: Actively engaging in technical discussions with the engineering team. Understanding the architecture and the strategic implications of different solution approaches.
  • Stakeholder management: Representing the development teams towards internal stakeholders and ensuring cross-functional alignment on technical dependencies.
  • Sprint & release planning: Driving sprint planning and defining sprint goals together with the development team, while accounting for capacity, dependencies, and risks.
  • Facilitation of agile events: Owning the structured preparation, follow-up, and facilitation of Scrum events (Daily, Backlog Refinement, Sprint Planning, Retrospective) to ensure efficient processes and effective collaboration.
  • Product discovery & validation: Identifying new opportunities and validating hypotheses through user feedback, data analysis, or prototyping.
  • KPI monitoring & continuous improvement: Tracking relevant product and delivery metrics. Deriving optimization measures to foster a culture of continuous improvement within the team.

Your goals in this role (impact)

  • Product roadmap established and actively maintained: A clearly prioritized product roadmap, aligned with the company’s strategy, is in place. It is actively maintained based on technical feasibility and priority and serves as a shared decision-making foundation for stakeholders and engineering.
  • Autonomous story writing with minimal clarification needed: You independently write backlog items as well-structured stories. Basic follow-up questions have become rare – you know our systems and business processes well enough to draft requirements with confidence.
  • Ready to lead a Scrum team independently: You are prepared to guide a Scrum team through the full Scrum process on your own – including Dailies, Backlog Refinements, Sprint Plannings, and Retrospectives.
  • Deep system understanding acquired: You have developed a thorough understanding of how our systems are built and can explain them from both a functional and, ideally, a technical perspective. Identifying and communicating technical dependencies – such as those across profit calculation, payment methods, and trustee reporting – comes naturally to you.

Your Key Competencies

  • At least 3 years of experience as a (Technical) Product Owner or Product Manager.
  • Solid technical understanding of software development, system architectures, APIs, technical dependencies, and development processes.
  • Strong knowledge of agile methodologies (Scrum) along with hands-on experience in managing and prioritizing a product backlog.
  • Ability to translate business and technical requirements into clear, actionable user stories and backlog items with defined acceptance criteria.
  • Strong communication and alignment skills for effective collaboration with development teams, architects, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Data-driven decision-making: Confident use of product KPIs and the ability to make and justify prioritization decisions based on data.

Your soft skills

  • Communication skills: Ability to convey complex technical topics clearly and tailored to the audience – whether developers, management, or business departments.
  • Facilitation skills: Confidently leading agile events (Scrum meetings) to ensure team efficiency and engagement.
  • Conflict resolution: Proactively managing conflicting interests between technical necessities, business requirements, and team capacities.
  • Ownership & proactivity: Taking full responsibility for the backlog and product development; driving topics forward independently.
  • Empathy & teamwork: Understanding the challenges developers face and fostering a positive, collaborative team culture.
  • Structured working & prioritization discipline: Ability to maintain oversight and set clear priorities even when dealing with high complexity and parallel demands.
  • Learning agility & adaptability: Openness to new methods, tools, processes, and perspectives.

Your Background – Education & Experience

  • Completed degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a comparable technical or IT-related field. Equivalent qualifications or relevant professional experience in software development, IT products, or technical platforms are equally suitable.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience as a (Technical) Product Owner with a solid technical understanding of software development, system architectures, APIs, and technical dependencies.
  • Strong knowledge of agile methodologies (ideally Scrum) along with hands-on experience in maintaining and prioritizing a product backlog – preferably in a startup, scale-up, or comparable environment.
  • Strong communication and alignment skills for effective collaboration with development teams, architects, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Language skills: Business-fluent English, both written and spoken.
