Role

As a Senior Storage Engineer, you will spearhead the delivery and support of storage and archive deployments within a fast-paced environment. Your expertise will be pivotal in collaborating with cross-functional teams. ensuring our storage solutions are cutting-edge and aligned with organizational goals. Proficiency in cloud storage, Infrastructure as Code (laC), and advanced storage technologies is essential. Mastery of Agile methodologies and DevOps practices is highly desired.

Responsibilities

Strategic Storage Design and Oversight: Architect and implement storage solutions that align seamlessly with the organization’s strategic objectives. This involves advanced block and file storage array management. cloud storage innovations. and SAN switch configurations.

Advanced Storage Management: Oversee the installation, configuration, and optimization of storage systems. ensuring top-tier performance, availability, and security standards. Provide guidance in troubleshooting complex storage-related challenges.

Data Centre Expertise: Drive optimal data centre configurations. ensuring storage devices are efficiently racked and commissioned. Formulate best practices for storage infrastructure layout to ensure top-notch efficiency and reliability.

Proactive System Monitoring: Lead system health assessments and devise strategies to mitigate potential storage system interruptions. Establish a robust system maintenance routine, including patch management. firmware upgrades. and disaster recovery planning.

Technical Collaboration: Engage and guide cross-functional teams. coordinating with network engineers. software developers. and system administrators. Ensure the storage infrastructure blueprint seamlessly integrates with the wider business vision.

Security and Regulatory Expertise: Design and enforce top-tier security measures to protect the organization’s storage infrastructure and data. Stay updated with industry security best practices and ensure alignment with standards, including ISO27001 and PCI.

Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: Regularly update technical documentation, ensuring they reflect current system configurations. best practices. and troubleshooting methods. Promote a culture of knowledge sharing within the team.

Consultative Expertise: Provide consultative and collaborative technical expertise to the Engineering teams and Project Managers to ensure project-led deliverables are fit for purpose and consistent with ratified technical standards.

Team Mentorship: Mentor less experienced team members, helping to disseminate knowledge and technical experience into the team.

Technical Escalation: Form part of the technical escalation team, working with peers in the enterprise and technology teams to ensure mission­ critical systems and revenue-generating services are stable, reliable, and resilient, operating within agreed service levels at all times.

Requirements

A robust passion for IT, coupled with a strategic and innovative mindset.
Extensive experience with SAN switches (Cisco), block and file storage arrays (Pure Storage, Dell EMC lsilon, IBM XIV), and archive/backup platforms (Commvault).
Knowledge of cloud storage solutions and cloud infrastructure provisioning.
Good understanding of Infrastructure as Code (laC), Terraform, GIT, CICD pipelines, and DevOps practices.
Demonstrable skills in advanced storage hardware configurations within data centres.
Solid background in Agile methodologies, with a preference for those experienced in Scrum or Kanban roles.
Exceptional analytical skills, with a knack for proactively diagnosing and addressing storage infrastructure challenges.
Outstanding communication skills, suited for driving collaborative technical ventures and guiding team members.
Ability to juggle multiple projects in a demanding environment.
A steadfast commitment to security protocols and compliance standards.
Experience in setting workload and direction of a small team.
Experience technically evaluating potential new hires across a broad range of storage technologies.
Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in an enterprise-scale setting.
